Quick answer

As of June 2026, Bitget is reachable by residents of Italy and offers spot trading among other products. The competent authority for crypto asset services in Italy is Consob (Commissione Nazionale per le Società e la Borsa), working with the Banca d'Italia. Bitget does not yet hold authorisation under the EU Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) framework: its European entity based in Vienna filed a MiCA application with the Austrian Financial Market Authority in June 2026, and approval is not guaranteed. Whether Bitget can continue serving residents of Italy after the transition deadline is not yet confirmed, so verify the current position with Consob before acting.

Availability

Availability for residents of Italy

As of 26 June 2026, Bitget remains reachable by residents of Italy and continues to offer spot trading and related products. Italy does not appear on the Bitget list of restricted jurisdictions in its Terms of Use. The competent authority for crypto asset services in Italy is Consob (Commissione Nazionale per le Società e la Borsa), working with the Banca d'Italia.

Across the European Union, providers of crypto asset services are expected to operate under the Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) framework, either through a national authorisation or by passporting an authorisation held in another member state. Italy chose to use the full transitional period, which runs to 1 July 2026, after which only authorised crypto asset service providers may continue to serve clients.

Bitget holds a registration with the Organismo Agenti e Mediatori (OAM), the Italian register of virtual currency operators, which allowed it to operate as a virtual currency service provider in Italy under the regime that applied before the Markets in Crypto Assets framework. That registration is an anti money laundering record and is not the same as a Markets in Crypto Assets authorisation.

Bitget does not yet hold a Markets in Crypto Assets authorisation. Its European entity, based in Vienna, filed a Markets in Crypto Assets application with the Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA) in June 2026, and Bitget has stressed that this is an application under review rather than an approval. Because the outcome and timing are not settled, the continued availability of Bitget to residents of Italy beyond the transition deadline should be treated as developing and verified directly (as of June 2026).

How it works

Access, KYC, and products

Bitget is a custodial platform, which means it holds the assets in your account on your behalf rather than giving you the private keys. Residents of Italy who can access the platform typically fund accounts using bank transfer methods, and identity verification, known as know your customer, is required before trading. Bitget applies anti money laundering checks as part of onboarding.

The product mix offered to a given country depends on local rules and on the authorisations Bitget holds. Some products, such as certain derivatives, are restricted or unavailable in parts of the European Economic Area. Confirm what is offered to Italy on the platform itself, and treat the Markets in Crypto Assets authorisation question as the main open issue rather than the day to day mechanics (as of June 2026).

Tax

How crypto is taxed in Italy

Crypto is taxed in Italy under rules administered by the Agenzia delle Entrate. In general terms, gains realised by an individual on crypto can be subject to a substitute tax, and there are reporting duties for crypto holdings. The exact treatment depends on personal circumstances and has been subject to change in recent budget laws (as of June 2026).

Rules and thresholds change and depend on your situation, so confirm the current treatment with the Agenzia delle Entrate or a qualified adviser. See the Italy crypto tax page for a fuller explanation. This is general information, not tax advice (as of June 2026).

Compare available exchanges

Several platforms serve residents of Italy and are working toward or already hold authorisation under the European Union Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) framework. Availability and products vary, so compare the exchanges that are genuinely available in Italy, and confirm each platform status with Consob before you choose.

Every availability status here is dated and checked against the named regulator's public register. We never place a link to a platform where it is not available.
