Is Kraken available in the Netherlands?
As of June 2026 Kraken is available to residents of the Netherlands. Kraken serves clients across the European Economic Area under a Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) crypto asset service provider authorisation held through the Central Bank of Ireland, which is passported into the Netherlands where the Autoriteit Financiële Markten (AFM) is the competent authority. Confirm the current authorisation on the AFM and ESMA registers before acting.

How we checked this. We set this status by reading the platform's own terms of use and country eligibility, and the public register kept by the named regulator, then dated the result. Availability can change, so confirm directly with the platform and the regulator before acting. As of 26 June 2026.
As of June 2026 Kraken is available to residents of the Netherlands. Kraken has stated that it serves clients across all 30 European Economic Area countries through a Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) crypto asset service provider authorisation obtained from the Central Bank of Ireland, which can be passported into each member state. The Autoriteit Financiële Markten (AFM) is the Dutch competent authority under MiCA. A Dutch resident can generally open an account, complete verification, fund in euros, and trade. Funding methods, supported assets, and fees change, so confirm the current options and Kraken's authorisation on the AFM and ESMA registers before acting.
Is the platform available to residents
As of June 2026 Dutch residents can generally register with Kraken and use the platform. Kraken announced in 2025 that it had become live across all 30 European Economic Area countries under MiCA, with European clients served by its MiCA authorised entity. The Netherlands is part of the European Economic Area, so a Dutch resident is served through that regulated channel.
Kraken supports account opening, identity verification, euro funding, spot trading across a broad asset list, and additional services such as staking where it offers them and where local rules allow. Because availability and the exact product set can change, confirm what is offered to a Netherlands account in the Kraken app, and confirm the authorisation that covers Dutch clients on the AFM and European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) registers (as of June 2026).
The regulator and the framework
The Netherlands supervises crypto on a Twin Peaks model. De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) historically ran the registration regime for crypto service providers focused on anti money laundering, and the Autoriteit Financiële Markten (AFM) is the conduct authority. Since 30 December 2024 the European Union Markets in Crypto Assets regulation, known as MiCA, applies to crypto asset service providers across the bloc, coordinated with the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), with the AFM as the Dutch competent authority.
A provider needs a MiCA crypto asset service provider authorisation, known as a CASP authorisation, to serve Dutch users, and an authorisation granted in one member state can in principle be passported across the European Economic Area. Kraken has stated that its European clients are served by an entity authorised by the Central Bank of Ireland. The Dutch transitional period for providers registered under the former DNB regime ended on 30 June 2025, so confirm any platform's authorisation and the markets it actually serves on the AFM and ESMA registers (as of June 2026).
How residents access the platform
Residents typically access Kraken through its website and app after completing know your customer verification, which Kraken applies as part of its anti money laundering controls. European clients generally fund in euros, with methods that can include SEPA bank transfers, though available options for a Netherlands account can change.
The product set centres on spot trading across a large asset list, with staking and other services offered in some regions and subject to local availability and the MiCA framework. Products, supported assets, and fees change over time, so confirm what is shown to a Netherlands account before trading (as of June 2026).
Tax treatment
Tax on crypto for Dutch residents is administered by the Belastingdienst, the Netherlands Tax Administration. Holdings are generally reported under the Box 3 regime that taxes wealth, while activity that amounts to a business or to income can fall under other boxes. This page does not give tax advice. For how crypto is treated in the Netherlands in general terms, see the Netherlands tax page, and confirm your own position with a qualified local professional before filing (as of June 2026).
Kraken is available to Dutch residents under MiCA, and other providers, including Coinbase, OKX, Crypto.com, and Dutch licensed platforms, also serve the Netherlands. Availability, fees, and protections vary, so compare the exchanges available in the Netherlands before you choose.
Every availability status here is dated and checked against the named regulator's public register. We never place a link to a platform where it is not available.
