Is Kraken available in Vietnam?

The lead regulator is the Ministry of Finance. Treat Kraken as not available to residents, and verify the current position directly before acting.

How we checked this. We set this status by reading the platform's own terms of use and country eligibility, and the public register kept by the named regulator, then dated the result. Availability can change, so confirm directly with the platform and the regulator before acting. As of 26 June 2026.
As of June 2026, Kraken does not provide a localised service for Vietnam and does not offer a Vietnamese dong fiat on ramp, so it is not practically available to residents in a compliant way. Holding and using crypto became legal under the Law on Digital Technology Industry, effective 1 January 2026, but the separate pilot licensing regime led by the Ministry of Finance channels domestic trading through licensed local providers, and Kraken is not among them. Confirm the current position before acting.
Availability for Vietnamese residents
As of 14 June 2026, Kraken does not offer a localised Vietnamese service or a dong on ramp. Kraken operates on a country by country basis, concentrating its fiat funding and full product in jurisdictions where it offers a supported service, and Vietnam is not one of those markets.
Vietnam's framework changed in 2025 and 2026. The Law on Digital Technology Industry, effective 1 January 2026, legalises the ownership and use of crypto assets. Resolution Number 05 of 2025, issued on 9 September 2025, established a five year pilot licensing regime, and the Ministry of Finance (MOF) shortlisted domestic applicants such as VIXEX, LPEX, CAEX, TCEX, and Vietnam Digital Assets JSC. Under this regime, domestic trading is expected to run through licensed local providers, and offshore platforms are not authorised for that purpose.
Kraken is not a licensed pilot provider and does not offer a local route, so it should be treated as not available to residents. Confirm the current status with the Ministry of Finance and the platform directly before acting.
Access, KYC, and the local position
Kraken is a custodial platform, which means it holds the assets in your account on your behalf rather than giving you the private keys. Where it operates, identity verification (know your customer, or KYC) is required before trading, in line with anti money laundering obligations. Kraken does not provide a Vietnamese dong on ramp or a localised service for Vietnam.
Because Kraken is not available and is not a licensed pilot provider, residents looking to trade compliantly should follow Vietnam's new framework as the licensed local providers come online. The pilot requires licensed providers to operate exclusively in Vietnamese dong. For how any gains are taxed, see the Vietnam tax section below.
How crypto is taxed in Vietnam
Vietnam is developing the tax treatment of crypto alongside its new legal framework. The tax authority is the General Department of Taxation under the Ministry of Finance. Historically crypto gains sat in a grey area without a dedicated regime, and the authorities are working out how disposals and trading will be taxed under the pilot. The exact treatment depends on your personal situation and on rules that are still settling, so confirm the current position with the General Department of Taxation or a qualified adviser. See the Vietnam crypto tax page for a fuller explanation. This is general information, not tax advice (as of 14 June 2026).
Kraken is not available in Vietnam, so we do not link it here. The licensed market is in its pilot phase with domestic providers being onboarded. These pages explain the current rules and how the licensed local exchanges are taking shape.
Regulator and sources
The lead regulator for crypto in Vietnam is the Ministry of Finance (MOF), coordinating with the State Securities Commission (SSC), the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), and the Ministry of Public Security (MPS). The position below is stated as of 14 June 2026 and should be confirmed on the primary sources.
- Kraken supported jurisdictions and funding information, which does not provide a localised Vietnamese dong service.
- Law on Digital Technology Industry, passed 14 June 2025 and effective 1 January 2026, recognising and legalising crypto assets.
- Resolution Number 05 of 2025, issued 9 September 2025, establishing a five year pilot crypto asset market and licensing regime.
- Ministry of Finance shortlist of domestic pilot applicants, including VIXEX, LPEX, CAEX, TCEX, and Vietnam Digital Assets JSC.
