KuCoin is not registered with the Financial Conduct Authority and appears on the FCA warning list. New United Kingdom sign ups are not accepted, and existing UK users have reported being limited to withdrawing balances rather than trading.

How we checked this. We set this status by reading the platform's own terms of use and country eligibility, and the public register kept by the named regulator, then dated the result. Availability can change, so confirm directly with the platform and the regulator before acting. As of 26 June 2026.
As of June 2026, KuCoin is not available to United Kingdom residents. It is not registered with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), which added KuCoin to its warning list in October 2023, and it is not authorised to market crypto services to UK consumers. New UK accounts are not accepted, and UK users have reported access limited to withdrawing existing balances rather than placing new trades.
Availability for UK residents
As of 7 June 2026, KuCoin does not onboard new United Kingdom residents and is not authorised to provide crypto services to UK consumers. The responsible authority is the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). KuCoin is not on the FCA register of cryptoasset firms and is named on the FCA warning list, where it was added in October 2023 alongside many other firms judged to be operating without the required permissions.
UK users who opened accounts in the past have reported that their access has been restricted, typically to closing positions and withdrawing funds rather than trading. The exact handling of legacy accounts can change, so anyone with an existing balance should confirm the current position directly with KuCoin support (as of 7 June 2026).
Reaching the platform through a virtual private network or by giving a non UK address would breach KuCoin terms and would not restore any UK consumer protections. This page describes the position rather than recommending any workaround.
Why the FCA position matters
Since 8 October 2023, any firm communicating cryptoasset promotions to UK consumers must do so in a way that complies with the FCA financial promotions regime, and firms providing cryptoasset services in or to the UK are expected to be registered under the Money Laundering Regulations. KuCoin does not hold that registration (as of 7 June 2026).
Because KuCoin is not registered, UK users do not benefit from the protections that come with FCA oversight. Crypto holdings on exchanges are generally not covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme in any case, and using an unregistered platform removes the conduct and disclosure safeguards the FCA regime is designed to provide.
Funding is a further practical barrier. Many UK banks decline or flag transfers to platforms that are not FCA registered, so even where an account can technically be reached, moving pounds in and out can be difficult or blocked.
Tax still applies
Even though KuCoin is not available to UK residents, anyone who holds or has held crypto remains subject to United Kingdom tax rules. His Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) generally taxes disposals of crypto as capital gains and certain crypto income, such as some staking or rewards, as income, regardless of where the platform is based.
Thresholds and reliefs change and depend on personal circumstances, so confirm the current position with HMRC or a qualified adviser. See the United Kingdom crypto tax page for a fuller explanation. This is general information, not tax advice (as of 7 June 2026).
KuCoin is not available to UK residents, so this site does not link to it for the United Kingdom. If you are in the UK, compare platforms that are registered with the Financial Conduct Authority and check each firm on the FCA register before you act.
Regulator and sources

- Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), register of cryptoasset firms registered under the Money Laundering Regulations.

Frequently asked questions
Is KuCoin legal to use in the UK?
For an individual, holding crypto is legal in the United Kingdom, but KuCoin itself is not authorised to offer services to UK consumers and is on the Financial Conduct Authority warning list. As of 7 June 2026 it is not available to new UK residents, so this is best treated as an availability and authorisation issue rather than a question about whether owning crypto is allowed.
Can I open a new KuCoin account in the United Kingdom?
No. As of 7 June 2026, KuCoin does not accept new sign ups from United Kingdom residents, and it is not registered with the Financial Conduct Authority. Confirm the current position on the FCA register before acting.
Is KuCoin FCA registered?
No. KuCoin does not appear on the Financial Conduct Authority register of cryptoasset firms and has been named on the FCA warning list since October 2023 (as of 7 June 2026).
Can existing UK users still withdraw from KuCoin?
UK users have reported that access has been limited to withdrawing existing balances rather than trading. Handling of legacy accounts can change, so confirm the current arrangement directly with KuCoin support.
Do I still owe UK tax on KuCoin holdings?
Possibly. His Majesty's Revenue and Customs taxes crypto gains and income for UK residents regardless of where the platform is based. See the United Kingdom tax page for how this generally works. This is general information, not tax advice.
What can UK residents use instead?
UK residents can compare platforms registered with the Financial Conduct Authority and check each one on the FCA register. See the best exchanges in the United Kingdom page for the available options.
Rules change frequently. Exchange availability, registrations, and the rules that govern them can change at short notice and vary by region. The position on this page is dated 7 June 2026. Confirm the current status with the Financial Conduct Authority and the platform before you act.
