How to buy Cardano in Turkey
This is general information, not legal, tax, or financial advice. Verify the current rules with a qualified local professional and the official regulator before acting.
Buying, holding, and trading Cardano (ADA) is legal in Turkey as of June 2026, and most people do it through a platform authorised by the Capital Markets Board, such as BtcTurk or Paribu, or a global exchange like Binance or OKX. Using crypto to pay for goods and services is separately banned by the Central Bank, so ADA can be bought and held but not spent as money. Turkey does not currently impose a dedicated capital gains tax on individual crypto gains, but the position can change, so verify before filing. This is general information, not advice.
Is it legal to buy Cardano in Turkey?
Buying, holding, and trading Cardano is legal in Turkey as of June 2026. Law No. 7518, which amended the Capital Markets Law and took effect in July 2024, introduced a legal definition of a crypto asset for the first time and placed crypto asset service providers, covering trading platforms, custody providers, and transfer services, under the authorisation and supervision of the Capital Markets Board of Türkiye (CMB, also known by its Turkish initials SPK). Providers must obtain authorisation from the CMB, and operating without it carries criminal sanctions. Many established platforms have been operating under a transition regime while their applications are assessed.
There is one clear restriction to understand. Since 16 April 2021 the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) has prohibited the direct or indirect use of crypto assets to pay for goods and services. That ban is about payments, not ownership, so a private person may still legally buy, hold, and trade ADA, but cannot use it as a means of payment. The legality of buying and holding Cardano is not affected, as of June 2026. Confirm the current position with the CMB and the CBRT before acting.
Ways to buy Cardano
The most common route is a centralized exchange. After you register and verify your identity, you fund the account in Turkish lira by bank transfer, then buy Cardano at the market price plus the platform fee. Turkey has large domestic platforms, including BtcTurk and Paribu, alongside the global exchanges that serve the country. Exchanges let you hold the coin in their custody or withdraw it to a wallet you control. A second route is peer to peer trading, where you buy directly from another person, often with the coin held in escrow until payment clears.
Expect to pass a know your customer check that collects your name, your Turkish identity number, and identity documents, because that is part of the anti money laundering rules and the CMB framework that apply as of June 2026. There is no legal cap on how much Cardano an individual can buy, but platforms set their own limits by verification level. Cardano uses a proof of stake design, so ADA can also be staked to earn rewards by delegating to a stake pool, though the products offered vary by platform.
Tax when you buy and sell
As of June 2026 Turkey does not impose a dedicated capital gains tax on gains made by individuals from buying and selling crypto. Buying ADA with lira and holding it is not a taxable event, and the general income tax framework applies in the usual way to a person's overall affairs. Under Law No. 7518 the burden falls on the platforms rather than the buyer: authorised crypto asset service providers transfer 1% of their revenue, excluding interest income, to the Capital Markets Board and a further 1% to the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, so 2% of platform turnover goes to public bodies.
This is an area that has been actively discussed. Proposals to tax crypto transactions have been raised in Turkey, and the high inflation environment makes tax policy fast moving, so the position can change. Confirm your situation with the Revenue Administration (Gelir İdaresi Başkanlığı) and a tax professional before filing, and keep records of your acquisition cost and dates.
