How to buy Dogecoin in Vietnam
This is general information, not legal, tax, or financial advice. It is not a recommendation to buy any asset. Verify the current rules with a qualified local professional and the official regulator before acting.
Owning and investing in crypto assets such as Dogecoin is now recognised in Vietnam under the Law on Digital Technology Industry, in force since 1 January 2026. A licensed domestic trading market is still in a pilot phase as of June 2026, with no platform confirmed as fully licensed, and foreign exchanges are not recognised under the framework. Using crypto as a means of payment remains prohibited. Because availability is in transition, this page does not link any exchange for Vietnam.
Is buying Dogecoin legal in Vietnam
The position changed recently. The Law on Digital Technology Industry, passed in June 2025 and in force from 1 January 2026, recognises digital assets for the first time and defines categories including crypto assets. This gives legal recognition to owning and investing in a crypto asset such as Dogecoin, which moves Vietnam out of the earlier grey area. Two points still constrain how you can act, as of June 2026. First, the State Bank of Vietnam has repeatedly confirmed that crypto is not legal tender and not a lawful means of payment, so using Dogecoin to pay for goods or services is not permitted. Second, the market for trading is being built through a licensing pilot rather than through established licensed platforms. Dogecoin is treated like other crypto assets under the new law, with no separate rule that singles it out.
Why availability is still in transition
In January 2026 the Ministry of Finance launched a pilot for a regulated crypto asset market and began accepting licence applications from Vietnamese enterprises, with a high minimum capital requirement and strict cybersecurity standards. Several applicants have passed an initial qualification round, but no platform is confirmed as fully licensed and operational as of June 2026. The framework does not recognise foreign licences or allow passporting, and the authorities have signalled an intent to block unlicensed platforms and move trading onto domestic licensed exchanges. Because there is no genuinely available licensed platform to point to yet, this page does not show an exchange comparison for Vietnam and does not link an affiliate. A correct not yet available is more useful to you than a wrong recommendation.
How to follow the rollout safely
If you intend to buy Dogecoin in Vietnam, the safest approach is to wait for a platform that holds a licence under the new framework and to confirm its status directly with the Ministry of Finance before depositing funds. Be cautious about platforms that claim to be licensed before the pilot has issued operating licences, and remember that using crypto for payments remains prohibited regardless of the trading rules. Dogecoin is a proof of work coin and does not offer native staking rewards, so be wary of any product that promises a yield. Keep records of any activity, since tax rules are being developed alongside the licensing framework.
The tax to plan for
A dedicated crypto tax regime is still being developed alongside the new licensing framework, and the detailed treatment was not settled as of June 2026. Proposals for a transaction based tax on crypto trades have been discussed but were not finalised at the time of writing, and existing personal income and value added tax rules may apply depending on the activity. See the Vietnam crypto tax page for the current detail, and confirm your position with a qualified Vietnamese tax professional before filing. This is general information, not tax advice.
Because no licensed platform is confirmed as operational for Vietnam residents as of June 2026, we do not show an exchange comparison or an affiliate link here. We will update this page when licensed platforms become available. For the current state of the rules, see the regulation page.
