Is Binance available in Canada?

Not available to Canadian residents

As of June 2026 Binance is not available to residents of Canada. Binance withdrew from the Canadian market in 2023 rather than meet the registration requirements set by the Canadian Securities Administrators and the provincial securities regulators, and it has not returned.

Quick answer

As of June 2026 Binance is not available to Canadian residents. In May 2023 Binance announced it was leaving Canada after the Canadian Securities Administrators and provincial regulators tightened the rules for crypto platforms, declining to give the undertaking that would have required it to work toward registration. New Canadian accounts are not offered, and Canadians who want a registered platform can look to exchanges that hold restricted dealer registration in Canada.

Availability

Is the platform available to residents

As of June 2026 Binance is not available to residents of Canada. In May 2023 Binance announced it would exit the Canadian market, stopping new account openings and moving existing Canadian users toward closing their positions and withdrawing funds.

Binance left rather than accept the registration framework that Canadian securities regulators put in place, under which platforms serving Canadians were asked to give an undertaking to work toward registration and to limit higher risk products. Because Binance did not register, it cannot lawfully offer or market its trading services to Canadian residents (as of June 2026).

Regulation

The regulator and the framework

Canada regulates crypto asset trading platforms through the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) and the provincial and territorial securities regulators, with the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) a leading authority. Platforms that serve Canadian residents are expected to register and to operate under securities law, and products such as margin and derivatives are restricted for retail users (as of June 2026).

From 2022 the CSA asked platforms to give an undertaking to work toward registration as a condition of continuing to serve Canadians. On 6 August 2024 the CSA ended that interim approach for time limited restricted dealer registration, and new platforms now apply directly to the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO). Anti money laundering obligations are separately overseen, and platforms that handle fiat typically register as a money services business with the federal financial intelligence unit (as of June 2026).

What this means for residents

How residents are affected

Because Binance is not available in Canada, there is no compliant way for a Canadian resident to open a new Binance account. Any service that claims to provide Binance access to Canadians, for example through a virtual private network or a third party, sits outside the registered framework and carries legal and counterparty risk.

Canadians who want to use a registered platform can look to exchanges that hold restricted dealer registration with Canadian securities regulators. Coinbase and Kraken are two platforms that are registered and available to Canadian residents (as of June 2026).

Tax

Tax treatment

Tax on crypto for Canadian residents is administered by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), and a tax liability can arise on disposals even where the platform used is offshore. This page does not give tax advice. For how crypto is treated in Canada in general terms, see the Canada tax page, and confirm your own position with a qualified local professional before filing.

Compliant alternatives in Canada

Binance is not available to Canadian residents, so this page links to platforms that are genuinely available and registered in Canada, not to Binance. Compare the exchanges that hold registration in Canada before you choose.
