HTX: availability and regulation
HTX, the exchange formerly known as Huobi, operates across a broad range of markets and holds named registrations in several jurisdictions. It does not serve residents of the United States, and product availability varies by country.
Information, not advice. This is general information, not legal, tax, or financial advice. Verify the current rules with a qualified local professional and the official regulator before acting.
HTX is a global cryptocurrency exchange that traded as Huobi until a rebrand in 2023. As of June 2026 it is available to users in many countries across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, and Africa, and it holds named registrations including an AUSTRAC digital currency exchange registration in Australia and a virtual asset registration in Lithuania. It does not accept customers in the United States. Supported assets and features differ by country, so check what is offered where you live.
What HTX is
HTX is a centralised cryptocurrency exchange that began as Huobi in 2013 and rebranded to HTX in 2023. It offers spot trading, derivatives, staking, and a range of other products through its app and website.
The platform is custodial, which means HTX holds the assets in your account on your behalf rather than handing you the private keys. If you prefer to control your own keys you would need a separate self custody wallet.
Fees are charged on a tiered maker and taker basis, with discounts for higher volume and for holders of the platform token. Exact pricing and the list of supported assets change over time, so confirm the current schedule on the platform before trading.
Registrations and licences
- Australia. An AUSTRAC digital currency exchange provider registration covering operations served to Australian users (as of June 2026).
- Lithuania. Registration as a virtual currency exchange operator and a virtual currency wallet operator under the Lithuanian framework (as of June 2026).
- British Virgin Islands. A SIBA investment business licence covering custody and the operation of an investment exchange for an HTX entity (as of June 2026).
- Dubai. A licence from the Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) for an HTX entity in Dubai (as of June 2026).
- Pakistan. A No Objection Certificate from the Pakistan virtual assets regulator covering several activities, reported in 2026. HTX publishes its full list on its own licensed businesses page, which is the most current reference (as of June 2026).
Each registration is stated as of 21 June 2026. Licences and registrations change. Confirm the current position on the regulator register and the licences page of the platform before acting.
Where HTX is available
As of June 2026 HTX states that it serves users in many countries across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, and Africa, subject to local law and identity verification. The exact list of supported countries and products is set by HTX and changes over time.
HTX does not accept residents of the United States, and it is not positioned as a United States licensed exchange. Access is also blocked in jurisdictions subject to international sanctions and in certain other restricted markets. Because availability varies, confirm that HTX serves your country on the platform before you sign up.
HTX is one of several platforms available in many markets. Availability still depends on where you live, so compare the exchanges that are genuinely available in your country before you choose.
Regulator and sources
The relevant regulators differ by market: AUSTRAC in Australia, the registry of virtual asset operators in Lithuania, the Financial Services Commission in the British Virgin Islands, and the Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) in Dubai.

Frequently asked questions
Is HTX available in the United States?
No. As of June 2026 HTX does not accept residents of the United States and is not a United States licensed exchange. If you live in the United States you would need a platform that serves that market.
Is HTX the same as Huobi?
Yes. HTX is the exchange that traded as Huobi until it rebranded to HTX in 2023. The brand changed but it is the same exchange lineage. This is current as of June 2026.
What registrations does HTX hold?
As of June 2026 HTX lists registrations including an AUSTRAC digital currency exchange registration in Australia, a virtual currency operator registration in Lithuania, a SIBA licence in the British Virgin Islands, and a VARA licence in Dubai. HTX publishes the full list on its own licensed businesses page.
Does HTX hold my crypto for me?
Yes. HTX is a custodial platform, so it holds the assets in your account on your behalf. If you prefer to control your own private keys you would need a separate self custody wallet. This is general information, not advice.
Where can I check HTX licences directly?
HTX publishes its registrations on its own licensed businesses page, and each named regulator keeps a public register. Those primary sources are the most current way to confirm the position before acting.
Rules change frequently. Exchange availability, registrations, and the rules that govern them can change at short notice and vary by region. HTX has restructured its brand and corporate arrangements over time, so its registrations and supported countries can shift. The position on this page is dated 21 June 2026. Confirm the current status with the named regulator and the platform before you act.
